KFF International Short Film Competition

The International Shorts section comprises 24 narrative films, 8 documentaries, 6 animated films, and 2 experimental films, including 19 works from Asia. It has always been one of the festival’s most competitive sections. Beyond live-action narrative films, the experimental and animated works are also full of amazing creative energy. Through the careful crafting of sound, image, and narrative, these works not only convey universal emotions, but also offer audiences a glimpse into the everyday lives and cultures in different regions. Expect charming moments of humor and tenderness, as well as unexpected instances of horror, anxiety, and stunned silence.

The Taiwan Shorts section comprises 10 narrative films, 5 animated films, 3 documentaries, and 2 experimental films, including 7 student works. These films engage with contemporary issues while revisiting fragments of history and exploring experimental forms. They portray fantastical encounters, clashes between private emotions and social realities, subtle moments between life and death, the complexities of intimate relationships, and the wounds left by family and politics. Embark on this audiovisual journey to dive into the hearts and minds of Taiwanese filmmakers and residents from over this past year, and experience their timeless creativity and cross-domain artistry time and time again.

Now in its ninth year, the KFF Children’s Jury Award is decided by a jury of children aged 9 to 12, who select the winner through workshops and discussions. Featuring diverse forms and perspectives, the program encourages young audiences to think critically and express themselves with confidence.
