Synopsis
In the scintillating, pop-infused world of a Japanese boarding school that trains teenage girls to become professional mermaids, 17-year-old Akame learns to hold her breath, perform for adoring crowds, and swim alongside sharks. Under her silicone mermaid tail, Akame will find her siren voice, discover first love and experience a metamorphosis, turning performance into transformation.

Konstantina KOTZAMANI is a Greek filmmaker. Her short and medium-length films have premiered in major festivals such as Berlinale (Washingtonia, 2014), Locarno (Yellow Fieber, 2015), International Critics’ Week (Limbo, 2016), Mostra de Venise (Electric Swan, 2019) and Locarno (What Mary Didn’t Know, 2024). They have received numerous international awards. Her debut feature Titanic Ocean was presented in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
