Synopsis

Amsterdam, 1652. When the old Town Hall burns down, the lives of a whaler, a printer, and a newly freed Black craftswoman become intertwined. As the city rebuilds, so do they. Walk alongside one of them and discover Amsterdam through their eyes. Your choice determines whose perspective shapes your journey.

Amsterdam 1652 is an intimate, cinematic VR experience where history unfolds through the lives of ordinary people who built the city with their own hands.

Nienke Huitenga Broeren is an immersive director exploring memory, identity and human connection through creative technology. Her VR documentary LACUNA (2025) premiered in Cannes Immersive, and her work spans documentary, speculative fiction and historical storytelling.
